Religious Quote: Joseph Ratzinger

A just laicism allows religious freedom. The state does not impose religion but rather gives space to religions with a responsibility toward civil society, and therefore it allows these religions to be factors in building up society.
Joseph Ratzinger

Not all moral issues have the same moral weight as abortion and euthanasia. There may be legitimate diversity of opinion even among Catholics about waging war and applying the death penalty, but not... with regard to abortion and euthanasia.
Joseph Ratzinger

Having a clear faith, based on the creed of the church is often labeled today as fundamentalism. Whereas relativism, which is letting oneself be tossed and swept along by every wind of teaching, look like the only attitude acceptable to today's standards.
Joseph Ratzinger

The wrath of God is a way of saying that I have been living in a way that is contrary to the love that is God. Anyone who begins to live and grow away from God, who lives away from what is good, is turning his life toward wrath.
Joseph Ratzinger

To me, its seems necessary to rediscover - and the energy to do so exists - that even the political and economic spheres need moral responsibility, a responsibility that is born in man's heart and, in the end, has to do with the presence or absence of God.
Joseph Ratzinger

The Cross is the approbation of our existence, not in words, but in an act so completely radical that it caused God to become flesh and pierced this flesh to the quick; that, to God, it was worth the death of his incarnate Son.
Joseph Ratzinger

We are moving toward a dictatorship of relativism which does not recognize anything as for certain and which has as its highest goal one's own ego and one's own desires.

Allison Andes- If I Was 2 Inches Tall...

Author’s Note: Being 2 inches would be a fun experience. This story is about me being 2 inches tall. Watch out I might bite!

How would you like to be 2 inches tall? That is the size of my pinky finger. That is really small! Being that small would be really fun because you can scare people and pop your eyes out at them like Theodore in Alvin and the Chipmunks and act all cute and everything. The disadvantage of being 2 inches tall is that people would step on you and probably not notice. Being 2 inches tall would sometimes be fun and sometimes, not so much.

Being 2 inches tall would be awesome because I could go to my farm and ride my My Little Pony named Pinky. Then I could ride my horse to Barbie’s house and ride with Ken on his motorcycle  to my Gingerbread house and lift weights that are noodles. After that, I could go to the big Christmas Tree in the human house that I live in. Around that Christmas tree I could ride on their choo-choo train and go “Toot Toot!” After I ride the train then I would have dinner crumbs from the giant humans. I would also go around and bite peoples foots. After that, I would brush my teeth with a candy cane and sleep on my smores bed.

There are a lot more things that I would do if I was 2 inches tall. It would be so much fun and it would be the greatest experience of my life and people would love me. If a scientist ever asked to shrink me then I would do it to have the greatest experience and do all the things in the last paragraph. If a scientist asked to shrink you, would you do it?

Author's Note: Spreading the Holiday cheer is fun but make sure you are good for Santa and spread the Christmas cheer!

Holidays are the most wonderful times of the year! Their a time where you can spend time with your family and most importantly get away from school! My favorite time of the year is Christmas because it is all about the birth of Jesus Christ and you can listen to Christmas music! I love listening to Mannheim Steamroller and Trans-Siberian Orchestra. They are the best Christmas bands ever! To some people, Christmas is all about opening presents on the morning of Christmas Day. Your heart is pumping with adrenaline and your getting so excited and then its finally here! Getting gifts on Christmas is really exciting but what about the true meaning of Christmas? People who are not Christians don’t know anything about Jesus, the Bible, the story of Jesus’ Birth. All the Non-Christians care about is the presents. When Mary gave birth to Jesus Christ, God really sent Jesus down to the earth so on Easter Jesus would die on the cross and make all of our sins go away.

Christmas is the time when you sit down at the table and have delicious meals that your family brought, exchanging gifts and spending time with the people that you love the most. Christmas is the favorite year of a lot a people in the world. About 2 million out of 6 million people in the world LOVE Christmas. Christmas has been a federal holiday since 1870. Imagine how many Christmas’ we have had. Children get presents every year and imagine how many gifts are sitting in their bedroom or in their house and how much money do you think their parents spend each year? My mom is getting my dad a Nook Color and it was $200! My mom said that this is going to be his one Christmas present. Parents spend and children get so many gifts and spend so much money on Christmas.

What I personally love about Christmas is going to my church and listening to the music when I enter the room. Every year we have a Christmas play put on from the little kids and they are adorable! This year my sister and I are playing a 3 page Christmas song called God Rest Y Merry Gentlemen/ O Come O Come Emanuel. My church takes Christmas very seriously. I love having Christmas at my church because we sing lots and lots of carols and have a great time with our family and friends. Just remember to spread the Christmas cheer and tell the true meaning of Christmas to your friends and family.

My Uncle Keith: From Human to Ashes and the Man I Once Knew

Author’s Note: My saddest memory contains some phrases that might make you cry so don’t be afraid to cry. This was the saddest and most recent part of one of my family members dying.

When one of my family members die, my heart just drops. Recently, September 12, 2011, my uncle or my dad’s brother Keith Andes, just died of Hypertension in his heart. When I was on my way to piano lessons, we got a call from my dad’s sister saying that my uncle was dead. He died laying in his bed with a book in his hand with his eyes closed. I asked my parents what was wrong and my dad announced that his brother was dead. My aunt Kathy, the one that called, said that they were going to have a funeral in Arizona. Arizona is where my uncle lived and he had a beautiful home. After my family and I talked, my parents called and cancelled my piano lesson and went to go see my dad’s mom. I went inside the house and my sister Angela asked, “Why aren’t you guys at piano?” When I told her that my dad’s brother died, she was astounded by tone of voice and that it happened unexpectedly. My uncle Keith was very healthy, he had nothing wrong with him and we still can’t find out how he got hypertension in his heart. If you don’t know what hypertension is in the heart, it is chronically elevated blood pressure. To find out what hypertension in the heart is go to http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/162449-overview. This was the most saddest part of my life because I never really knew him. I remember him but only with images. I got really sad and my dad was a tough cookie because the most saddest part was that it was his littlest brother. That is when my heart really sank. I would be devastated if my sister died because I can’t do anything without her.
Later on, sometime in September, my parents and about half of my dad’s side of the family went to Arizona for my uncle’s funeral. They were gone for about 4 days and my sister and I stayed at my Grandma’s. When my parents got back I asked them if my mom or my dad cried and my mom said, “Yeah we both cried and your dad did a little bit.” I felt so bad and I went up and hugged my dad. He felt better feeling my warm hug. I was about to burst into tears to because my Uncle Keith was only 40. He was really young and now I will never be able to really meet him. I would love to meet with him 1 more time.
Just recently, my dad’s mom called and said that she wanted some of my Uncle’s ashes. When some people burned his body, a man asked if anyone wanted some of his ashes. No one volunteered until December 1st, 2011 or some where around there. Having your little brothers ashes would be a memory to me of the man that I once knew and now lost.

From Little Kids to Growing Up

Author’s Note:  Growing up is a difficult task for parents. This story/ essay will be sad for some parents. This is about growing up and what we want to be.

Growing up is a very difficult part for the parents. To parents, it seems like just yesterday that their child was sitting in the high chair drinking out of their sippy cup and now their child is all grown up. My mom keeps asking me and I do the same to myself, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” I tell her I want to do all sorts of things. There are probably over 10 things that I want to be when I grow up. I can’t wait until I am older because I get to drive and have my own credit card. Another good reason is I would use the credit card to go to college and pay for my own car. The sad part about growing up is when you go to college, you have to leave your family or when you get married you move out of the house. As a poet once said, “Love does not begin and end the way we seem to think it does. Love is a battle, love is a war; love is growing up by James Baldwin. Growing up is an exciting part of my life because I can go on fantastic adventures like hiking the Himalayas or opening a bake shop but the sad part is I sometimes forget my childhood and I think to myself, wow, my childhood is now over and I am all grown up. Its the end of my childhood and its all in my past.
When I grow up, my favorite thing is to open some shops. I would love to open a bakers shop, a jewelry shop, a gift store and a lot more shops. My #1 shop that I would like to open up is a bakers shop because I love to bake. Whenever I get the opportunity to cook for my family, I ask my mom and she says, “Go for it!” Sometimes I just bake for the fun of it. I would love to open a bake shop because it is a fun family activity and I sometimes do it when I am bored. What inspired me to become a baker was on a TV show called Cake Boss. Cake Boss is my favorite cooking show. The owner of the shop really inspired me to open a bake shop of my own and become a baker. Baking is one of my biggest dreams and I would love to open a bake shop with my family.
Secondly, when I grow up, my biggest goal is to become a professional trumpet player and basketball player. I have been playing basketball for about 5 years and have learned a lot. Basketball is my passion. It runs in my family. My mom played it, my grandma played it, my sister and my dad did as well. When I get older, I would love to teach little kids and be a coach as much as I want to be a professional women’s basketball player. I would also love to be a professional musician on the trumpet. Same thing with basketball, I would love to be a trumpet player and teach other kids that even though I like sports, life is not all about playing JUST sports. Everyone needs music in their lives. People think, “Oh, life is just all about playing sports and nothing else.” Music changes a lot of people. Just remember that life is not all about sports and winning but everyone needs to have music inside them.
There are a lot more things that I would like to be when I grow up but these were the main ones. Getting older is a very important part in my life that I am really looking forward to. Doing all these jobs would make my life amazing but I would love to do them with my family. I couldn’t have any of these dreams without my family. They have helped me through difficult times and lead me to the right path. I know that my future is bright and so is my family’s and when I grow up, I might forget the childhood that is now done. It is all in my past.

The Beginning of a Nightmare

Author’s Note: This story tells about my worst nightmare if you have kids 5 and younger, please hold on to them and prepare to have the scariest story told about a dream.

Once upon a time there was a family that was sitting at home watching TV waiting to see if a terrific travel place ad was on TV for the family to go to. At approximately 2:22 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, a travel brochure was on. The family paid very close attention to the TV. As soon as the number came up on the screen, Allison ran for the phone and tossed it to her mom. Her mom quickly dialed the number as the commercial disappeared. A man picked up the call and asked if she wanted to make a reservation. So, the man and Allison’s mom discussed the day and time and everything else. Angela, Allison and her father were jumping up and down clapping their hands because they had just booked a hotel and are about to have a dream vacation. Allison got so excited, she nearly passed out. The next thing that the family did was storm to their rooms and start packing.
After the family had gotten all packed up 3 weeks before their vacation, they all went to bed because they were so tired. Allison was not tired what so ever, so she pretended to go to sleep and half of the night she played on her iPod. 30 minutes later after Allison played on her iPod, she hit the wall. She couldn’t wait until vacation and she dreamed about it. Now here’s the dream. Allison and her family were on vacation and it was in 1200B.C. Her and her family were walking around enjoying the beautiful view. All of a sudden, they heard and felt large thumps of footsteps. Allison turned around and a 1000 foot zombie with his 1001 foot T-Rex. Allison screams, “Run for your lives!” Allison starts to run and so does her family. Angela screamed to Allison, “What are you talking about?” Allison pointed to the sky and Angela, her mom and dad turned around and saw the zombie and the T-Rex. Everyone started running around screaming. There was a white poodle named fluffy and she lost her owners. The T-Rex looked down and saw the puppy and grabbed its tail. The puppy started to yelp. Allison risked her life and went by the T-Rex and hit it in the nose with a stick. The T-Rex screamed and closed its eyes. Allison had just saved the puppy and returned it to the owners who came running back. Angela had the family’s puppy named Percy and he was barking up a storm. As the family was running away, Allison had remembered reading a book about T-Rex’s. When you go under a rock, the T-Rex will not bother you because it broke its foot in 1107B.C. Allison screamed to everyone, “GET UNDER A ROCK! GET UNDER A ROCK NOW!” Everybody thought Allison was insane but everyone did it including her family. Allison saw a hat that had a paintball machine in it. She took it out of the hat and shot it at the zombie and T-Rex. She hit them right in the head and they collapsed. Allison had saved the day! She was a hero! Everyone applauded and was glad she had saved her family and everyone. Then I woke up and the dream ended.

Dream Car: The 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302

Author’s Note: This essay tells about how the mustang is created with some links and my point of view and the history of who made it.

Imagine putting your dream car on your Christmas list every year when you were 12 up until you were old enough to drive. Then 10 years later you get it. My favorite car of all time is the 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302. Even though the price is really expensive, I put it on my Christmas list every year until I get. It is my favorite car. If you go to google images and look up the 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302, you’ll see it. It’s really cool. This car is not out for sale yet but this is the car that I want for my birthday when I first drive. Driving this car would be one of the greatest things of my life. The 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 is a super fast and stylish car that I would love to have for the rest of my life.

The timeline of the Mustang company goes way back. Go to this URL and take a look at their timeline. http://media.ford.com/article_display.cfm?article_id=33064. The mustang has been one of my absolute favorite cars especially the 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302. Imagine how much money the Mustang company makes a year. The thing about buying Mustang cars is that they are probably $32,000 and don’t have great gas mileage. What I like about the Mustang Company is they make the cars with such style that really draws my attention. Lee Iaccoca made every mustang and made the company. He must make hundreds of thousands of dollars each year. He is my favorite car dealer/maker person. His creations on these cars just astound me. Every year he comes out with a new mustang, I always want it. That’s how much I love his creations.

Wouldn’t making cars be really fun? You might think that making cars is so boring and is a lot of work. Yeah doing that is a lot of work but imagine how much money you would make every year on that car or if you continue to make cars. Lee Iaccoca has made millions of dollars for his creation of the Mustang and if you have a dream of making a famous car, go for it just like Lee Iaccoca did and now look how famous he is. Follow your dream of making cars and be as famous as he is. Having the 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 would be my life long dream and I would love to drive it for the rest of my life.

Christmas: A Day of Joy and Giving

Author’s Note: This story tells about the true meaning of Christmas and what made Christmas possible.

Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year. It’s the time where you can spend lots of time with your family, gather around the Christmas Tree and open presents the morning of Christmas Day. But Christmas is not about opening presents. Christmas is about the birth of Jesus Christ. That’s why Christmas has its name. Its Christ mas. People that think Christmas is all about presents and getting new stuff, is wrong. If people are Christians, then they know the true meaning of Christmas. But some people say that Christ was born in the summer and not in winter. No one knows the actual date. Christmas, yes is the most wonderful time of the year. Way back in the 19th century, the tradition of gift-giving idea was later incorporated into the traditional Christmas celebrations. At first the gifts started out very modest and simple but now they are so high-priced and big. Way over the course of simple. Back in the 19th century, the Pagan came up with the idea of giving presents to each other but the Christians didn’t want to give presents to their families. Instead, the Christians gave them to baby Jesus. In this regard, it became symbolic and necessary to the grand tradition of Christmas.
We all know the famous Santa Claus. Santa became part of the Christmas tradition around the Middle Ages. However, his part in Christmas was not popularized until AFTER he was depicted as a jolly stout old man wearing a red and white suit in the 19th century. When Santa became a figure, Santa was immediately captured by celebrants because it was a big and new thing. Santa is said to be INSPIRED by Saint Nicholas of Myra, a bishop. He went all around the world in 1 night giving children of all kinds presents. Everyone knows that story. Santa Claus has become an inspirable joy from the tradition of Christmas.
Christmas carols has always been a fun part of the year. Spending time with family singing God’s songs and telling the word to other people. Most of the carols we sing were made in the 19th century and were sung from house to house near the time of Christmas. Later, the church adopted this tradition in the 1820’s, giving these songs greater sense of reverence. Christmas caroling at the senior center is a wonderful place on Christmas Eve to go caroling. Caroling has been one of the most wonderful times of the year.
Everyone knows that Christmas is a very exciting day. Just remember that Christmas is not all about presents. It is about the birth of Jesus Christ. Jesus has been the true symbolic meaning of Christmas. Merry Christmas!
